Only you can see inside your vault. We, the provider, cannot.

And if something happens to you, access goes to exactly the people you chose for it, and no one else.

The idea: What Heldena holds

Heldena keeps your assets in order during your lifetime. And after your death, your family finds everything.

The principle: Box & key

Technically, your vault is a locked box. And that box can be kept anywhere:

You get the key in two ways
Every day

Only with you
As a backup

Inheritance: How everything reaches your loved ones

Two roles make this possible:

Trusted person
Keeps a key share
Looks after a key share and, after your death, releases access together with the others. Inherits nothing and only needs a free account.
Heir
The recipient
Gets the logins to your assets after your death. Has nothing to keep and nothing to do beforehand.

The same person can be both.

1
A trusted person reports the death
This only starts the process. Nothing is released yet.
2
Other trusted people confirm
Everyone is asked: “Is this true?” No one ever decides alone. How many must confirm depends on how many trusted people you have (e.g. 2 of 3).
3
The protection period has to run out (90 days from the report)
The wait is deliberate: it brings every mistake to light. Everyone is notified, even you. You can stop the case until it is released, as long as you are able to.
4
Your heirs get access
They are guided step by step in their own app. Before that, no one sees anything, not even your trusted people.

If we no longer exist: And if Heldena no longer exists?

Even then your vault stays reachable, because everything needed has been spread out in advance:

Trust: Common questions

What exactly does “encrypted” mean here?
Only you can read your data. We, the provider, have no technical access to it, even if we wanted it or were forced to. That is because everything is encrypted on your device before it even leaves the device.
Does it also work without any password?
Yes. When you set up, you decide how your vault opens: with a password, or the way you unlock your device itself, that is, with your fingerprint, face or PIN. You can switch at any time later.

Unlocking without a password protects you better in the most common case, someone stealing your device: your fingerprint cannot be taken from a distance. It is the worse choice if someone can unlock your device, because then they also get into your vault. If you share your device with others, stick with the password.

But as long as your trusted people do not have their key shares yet, each of the two ways depends on this one device. If it is lost or broken, the vault is gone, and a password does not change that. So wait until then before you store anything whose loss would hurt.

What if I forget my password? Is everything gone then?
You do not lose your vault. If you have a second device you are signed in on (handy, but not required), you set a new password there right away. If all your devices are gone, your trusted people help you through the same protected process that applies after a death. The protection period applies here too: it takes a while. If Heldena no longer answers, you get back the state your trusted people fetched last, if they have opened Heldena since setup; whatever you changed after that is missing.
Does my trusted person need to be good with technology?
No. A free account is enough. They do not have to set anything up; their key share arrives automatically. When your death is reported, they answer one question (“Is this true?”) and the app guides them through every step. They never see your data.
